HSR brings so many people together. I even ran into an HSR girlie at my pilates teacher training last week in Miami and started chatting because of her HSR Journal! Love that the HSR community is truly everywhere ✨ - Hailey Bethke, Copywriter @ Arrae

Happy Sunday from Los Angeles, HSR!!! I’m finally home and there is no place like it.
I’m writing this as I can start to feel my personality come back, post-travel depression. I found it really hard getting back this time, partly because I was sick and partly because I was struggling with some HSR girl toxic traits. “No one is mad at me”, “flop eras don’t last forever” and “I can do everything and anything I set my mind to”.
^ Just some of what I wrote in my HSR journal this week.
I posted about how nice it feels to be back at work last night and I got this comment back from @kristenmaylee “being overwhelmed is a blessing compared to being underwhelmed” and amen.
I have some other VERY IMPORTANT NEWS to share before this week’s podcast episode…
This week’s podcast episode wasn’t supposed to release this early—but I had to release it early and once you listen, you’ll know why. It’s the realest Hot Smart Rich has ever gotten. Most podcasters would’ve cut what happens 37 minutes in. But because of how raw and honest the conversation was between me and the Founder & CEO of the fastest-growing prestige brand at Ulta, I left it in to hopefully encourage more discussions just like this one. I can’t wait to hear what you think…

About Most This Week ♡
♡ This is what 7 years, 32 million in funding and whole milk gets you. Introducing Nara Organics, a whole-milk infant formula from scratch.
♡ Scout Brisson, CEO of De Soi, reminded us why it’s important to post the PR and how much it really costs brands to do an entire launch with influencer mailers.
♡ The head of content, social & integrated marketing at Microsoft, Heike Young, outlined just how much of a grind it was to get her job and what it takes to stand out for your dream job today.
♡ The US Open wants in on the WAG life so they've produced an entire reality show called Game, Set, Matchmaker to take place at this year’s US Open staring Ilana Rae Sedaka who will date a cast of potential partners that include influencers, tennis superfans, and social personalities, as she seeks an, ahem, match amid the milieu of one of the biggest events in tennis. Will you tune in?
♡ Dairy Boy launches The Farm Stand with Viv’s Veggies, a small local farm in their community, bringing together community, culture and a fiercely loyal base of Paige Lorenxe fans that will most definitely be around to snap a pic of their favorite vegetable or at least get a cute pic.
♡ The wait is over—Breast Milk ice cream is finally here, thanks to Frida Baby and Frida Mom and a collab with OddFellows Ice Cream (via Quan Media). If you’re in NYC, you’ve got until August 10 to try it at their popup in DUMBO . If you’re not familiar, this iconic breast milk-flavored ice cream launched nine months after being announced (hilarious). It doesn’t contain actual breast milk but was formulated to mimic its taste and nutrient profile—sweet, nutty, and packed with Omega-3s and electrolytes. All of this is part of the launch campaign for Frida’s new 2‑in‑1 Manual Breast Pump. But in classic internet fashion, you can’t do anything without stirring the pot. While some are calling it genius, others are questioning why this ad even exists (insert eye roll)
♡ Private chef Molly Baz has whipped up only the best—for her favorite bitch (yes, her dog)—in a genius collab with Jinx. These ads are a reminder of why I love marketing.
♡ HSR Podcast Updates♡
Last week, we got real—talking about why so many beauty brands are flopping, what Ty Haney’s Outdoor Voices comeback taught us, and how the dating app Tea reflects everything messy about modern relationships. We opened up about burnout, boundaries, and why choosing not to have kids is more common (and radical) than people think. Plus, I had to give Gwyneth her flowers for that genius PR move—because yes, even your ex’s scandal is content.

Not all capital is created equal.
Ask any founder who’s had to navigate a tense board meeting or clean up a cap table gone wrong: choosing your investors isn’t just about the money. It’s about values, incentives, expectations, and whether or not they’re truly in your corner for the long haul.
Because let’s not forget: getting an investor off your cap table is harder than getting a divorce.
This week’s case study breaks down how to properly diligence investors when you're raising capital, especially at the earliest stages when every name on your cap table sets the tone for what’s to come.
