ICYMI ⋆˚✿˖°

Happy Sunday HSR

I’m writing to you from my home (!!!!) in the best mood because I loved chatting with you on IG during my experiment this week. It was just a fun week, even though I’ve been pretty open about the fact that I can spiral into toxic thought patterns unless I’m putting in the work every day (aka my HSR love notes, something I’ve done in my journal for the last 5 years, but am now finally sharing on IG Monday - Friday.)

Some highlights from our DMs:
♡ Finding out who you think the reality star entrepreneur queen is (hint: over 300 submissions and only about 10 of you got it right!!)
♡ Welcoming hundreds of new faces to the HSR WhatsApp channel and seeing you connect IRL
♡ Finally sharing more of my actual life, in the moment
♡ Getting so many messages back about the HSR love notes and how much you needed them too

As I’ve been more engaged on IG during this experiment, you’d think my screen time would skyrocket, but it’s actually been the opposite. I’ve been able to put some serious boundaries in place, thanks to this week’s podcast guest. She dives into the sociology behind phone addiction, para-social relationships, digital detoxes, and how to get your attention back, and I can’t wait for you to hear it.

To iPhone 17 Pro or not...I’m still rocking the iPhone 14 Pro and haven’t upgraded, for a few reasons. I hate spending money when there’s no massive improvement. But between not being able to find cute new cases for my current phone since they are now discontinued and the fact that the 17 Pro finally seems to have the camera upgrades I actually want, I’m so close to checking out after watching this video. What are you doing?

I will have a lot of explaining to do after I share something that I’ve been keeping private for a little bit, but I couldn’t be more excited to take you on the journey with me now that I’m ready <3

This Week’s Mood Board

HSR ICYMI is a weekly newsletter and educational resource — its $8 a month or $80 a year. If you want to expense it, use this template if you need to ask.

♡ This celebrity business model is broken and another one bites the dust. Behind the scenes, Serena Williams’ beauty brand Wyn is about to get sold off or go to bankruptcy court. Launched only last year in 2024 with a mission of long-wear, inclusive beauty for active lifestyles, Wyn hit Ulta shelves with 91 shades and a strong brand story. But recent reports show declining sales, a string of executive exits, and the collapse of its strategic partner, The Good Glamm Group — a $1.2B Indian beauty conglomerate once eyeing global expansion through Wyn.

♡ Everyone is trying to launch influencer storefronts from Sephora to Condé Nast but is it too late with ShopMy and LTK?

♡ Bethenny Frankel is entering into the dating app/ matching making game with this recent post and I can’t wait to see what she’s cooking up as the next SkinnyGirl.

♡ 831 Stories is a genius business model and is about to crack the next Nancy Meyers with writer Erika' Veurink’s debut novel, Exit Lane.

♡ Arrae launches MB-1 45+ with none other than Pamela Anderson, proving that the best business model is expanding on an already winning franchise. We saw it with Nudestix Sunkissed extending into Sunkissed Pink and eye pencils, and with Summer Fridays branching into eye serums, patches, and more. So it makes perfect sense that Arrae is now expanding into the 45+ category.

HSR Podcast News

♡ If you want to hear from the world’s self made billionaire woman about how she thinks about money, building wealth, what’s next in the world of ai and the creator economy - Lucy Guo on HSR is for you. We talked about why she still takes UberX, how “acting broke” is her secret to staying rich, and why equity (not cash) is the real path to generational wealth. Also: haters, trolls, and being underestimated in tech — Lucy doesn’t hold back. If you’re a founder, creator, or just a little obsessed with building smarter and playing the long game, you need this one.

Let’s cut to the chase: your Slack pinging you constantly isn’t harmless. Your email refresh isn’t just annoying. Together, they’re draining billions in lost productivity across companies of every size.

We talk a lot about capital, timing, and team as the drivers of startup success. But there is a hidden factor that no one is talking about. Attention. The single scarcest resource in modern business. And right now, it’s impossible to keep it for longer than 3-5 seconds.

The Problem: Notification Culture

We’ve built entire companies around Pavlovian pings. Slack, Teams, email, Asana, WhatsApp. Every new tool was sold as the “solution” to communication. Instead, it’s become the problem.
