ICYMI ⋆˚✿˖°

happy sunday HSR!!

There are a few directions I could take this today, but this edition is packed with consumer gossip, so we’re keeping it tight up top. I’m writing this after wrapping the LA gala trifecta: LACMA, Reverse Rett, and Baby2Baby. Looking around those rooms, one thing was clear, we are definitely living in a K-shaped economy. Giving back, both financially and through real, hands-on work, as well as democratizing business knowledge and access has never felt more important, especially when the government seems focused on the complete wrong things.

All of that came right on the heels of the biggest week in HSR’s life, with my sister, which I cannot wait to share more about. We’ve got a major announcement coming before the end of 2025 so I’m officially counting down the days to celebrate with you all and grow HSR even more. Speaking of countdowns, for big moments like this, I use an app called TimeCount that puts a beautiful countdown widget right on my home screen. Highly recommend.

I chatted with a bunch of you in my DM’s this week and promised a lot of links in this edition so let’s go into it. These dark wash jeans are perfect for upgrading your fall capsule, the baby2baby silver dress is perfect for a holiday party this year, the reverse rett dress in black (cream is sold out) and of course, the $54 amazon heels that are the perfect Saint Laurent knock off.

As life gets busier, I feel lucky to be surrounded by low-expectation friends (as someone who would consider themselves one too) rather than low-effort friends. For entrepreneurial women, that distinction can make or break a friendship. Having safe, secure friendships that don’t require constant upkeep as we chase our dreams but still offers deep support is truly everything.

Speaking of being busy, Courtney and I have decided to bring on a full-time family personal assistant so we can stay laser focused on building our businesses and our life together. If this JD sounds like you, we’d love to meet you.

And with that, I am off to watch All’s Fair despite the terrible reviews because truthfully, those tend to be the shows I prefer anyway.

This Week’s Mood Board

HSR ICYMI is a weekly newsletter and educational resource — its $8 a month or $80 a year. If you want to expense it, use this template if you need to ask.

♡ What brands are currently rich? I can always tell by who’s advertising on the Alfred Coffee sleeves. Right now, it’s FP Movement with a CTA to visit one of their four LA locations: Venice, Studio City, Century City, and Marina del Rey.

♡ Do kids need skincare? I think it depends. I’m feeling apprehensive about the wave of kid skincare brands launching right now from Sincerely Yours and Evereden to the latest, Rini but skincare for kids isn’t a new concept. We’ve always used products like sunscreen or Vaseline to protect their skin. But the difference now is in the packaging and the marketing, and this one feels borderline…I especially hate the Rini photo of the little girl in a mask looking at herself in a mirror and without that, maybe my opinion would have changed.

♡ Is anyone buying a “business-ish” show on the Unwell Network? Unwell is launching a new show “The Not So Little Podcast” with Kendall Vertes and based on the creative and copy, it’s giving post-grad, figuring-out-your-life energy for twenty-somethings.

♡ Summer Fridays went big as a premiere sponsor of the Baby2Baby Gala and nailed the activation with the cutest branded photo booth moment right at the entrance.

♡  I’ve already made it halfway to the average survival rate for new businesses in the U.S., which is currently five years according to Axios tracking data.

♡ Executives are hitting pause on in-person meetings until the government gets back to work. On five different calls I had last week, leaders from some of the biggest tech companies shared that they’re no longer flying out for IRL meetings. Even Katie felt the ripple effects when she woke up to an eight-hour delay on Friday morning after the FAA reduced air traffic by 10% at 40 of the country’s busiest airports while trying to get back to Toronto. This video made me love Delta even more with the transparency they’ve empowered their FA’s to display during this weird time.

HSR Podcast Updates

If you want to have the girls group chat in audio form but you want to get hotter, smarter, richer, Katie and I sit down to cover everything including our honest HSR POV on Rhode’s $200M P&L and how Hailey Bieber’s brand is rewriting the beauty playbook, why being “not for everyone” is your biggest advantage, how Diarrha’s (Ami Colé founder) Skims comeback shows the power of failing fast and forward, why creators are the new Disney with Steven Bartlett’s $425M raise, and even whether we’re actually cycle-syncing and optimizing our lives around that time of the month. We also got real about rejection, reinvention, and how to trust your own version of ambition, no matter how loud the noise gets. We love you angels!! 💋

For two decades, Oprah’s Favorite Things has been the gold standard of gift-guide and gift-giving glory. A single mention once sent brands into back-order chaos—2025’s equivalent of “going viral”. In the 2000s, that was the Oprah Effect: 20,000 units of Spanx sold overnight, shelves cleared, phones jammed.

But in 2025, when Flaus (an HSR Ventures portfolio company) made this year’s list, the question wasn’t “Does it work?” It was “For how much longer will it?”
